18th Annual Between the Waters Bike Tour Onancock, VA
Saturday, October 23, 2010

Explore the Eastern Shore of Virginia this fall when the Between the Waters Bike Tour begins in the historic town of Onancock. This event sponsored by Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore (CBES) winds through interesting historic towns and communities and along back roads to scenic rest stops that overlook the Atlantic seaside and the Chesapeake Bay.

This one day bike tour is an ecotourism event for CBES, a non-profit organization serving Northampton and Accomack counties, and the Between the Waters Bike Tour is one of the major fundraisers of the year for this group. With very little vehicle traffic, the ride is sure to be relaxed and peaceful as well as easygoing because of the flat terrain. Snack and drink stops are provided and a complimentary picnic lunch is served.

Riders have a choice of either 20, 40, 60 or 100-mile routes with staggered start times as follows:

  • 100-mile English Century - 8:00 a.m.
  • 60-mile Metric Century  - 9:00 a.m.
  • 40-mile - 10:00 a.m.
  • 20-mile Family Ride - 11:00 a.m.

Rest Stop Distances:

  • 20 Mile Route – 3 stops approximately 7 to 8 miles apart
Will drive to the lunch stop.
  • 40 Mile Route – 5 stops approximately 7 to 10 miles apart
       Lunch at 24.7 miles
  • 60 Mile Route – 6 stops approximately 7 to 15 miles apart
       Lunch at 35.1 miles
  • 100 Mile Route – 7 stops approximately 10 to 24 miles apart
       Lunch at 50 miles

Riders come from the Tidewater region as well as from North Carolina, Maryland and the D.C. area.  Word has gotten out that it’s a good ride through some beautiful countryside.  There is more to the Eastern Shore than just Route 13.

Come for the day or enjoy the Shore for the weekend.  CBES offers a Friday afternoon guided fun ride that usually has a 10 and 20 mile route for riders to enjoy.  There are many lodging choices available from the quaint B&Bs in several of our towns, warm and friendly hotels and motels as well as rental houses.  After the ride on Saturday, come and enjoy a truly rustic Eastern Shore Oyster Roast.

Please check this website occasionally, as further information will become available. Bike Tour registration will begin June 15, 2010
